Jonny Wilkinson is having one of those weeks. Weeks where you are Man of the Match in your team’s victory in the Heineken Cup final, nominated and winner of the Heineken Player of the Season and to top it all off, recipient of the much coveted UCD Rugby jersey!
The Heineken Cup Player of the Year was training in Belfield with his Toulon teammates ahead of their Top 14 semi-final match with Toulouse on Friday and UCD Director of Rugby Bobby Byrne (pictured) seems only too happy to seize the opportunity and present the man of the moment with the Universities colours.
The season could get even better for the Toulon and ex England maestro with the French club in the latter stages of their domestic league and a potential call up for The Lions squad still muted. Wilkinson reportedly turned down an initial place on the tour citing ‘domestic club commitments’ but it’s hard to see him refuse another approach from Lions coach Warren Gatland should the Kiwi come calling.
The Lions tour kicks off against the Barbarians in Hong Kong on June 1st.
