The site of a raccoon corpse on the side of the road in Toronto caused what can only be described as unprecedented scenes yesterday as it became a tribute to the late mammal.
The animals' body was originally spotted by someone who tweeted about it to Animal Services so that they could come and pick it up, but it seems that there was a bit of a delay in them getting someone out to the scene.

Instead of people avoiding the animal and doing their best to steer clear of it on the street, it soon became a local attraction after one passer-by thought it was only right that they should mark the raccoon's life in some small way.
@311Toronto It’s now after 3 pm and I guess Animal Services hasn’t been by, because someone’s having some fun now: pic.twitter.com/ff0ybbm5cX

Residents really took to him, as #DeadRaccoonTO started trending online, and they decided to name him Conrad. Things went even further as evening and darkness descended on the city, which turned the memorial into a candlelight vigil for the lost soul.

Eventually, Animal Services did come to take him away, but he won't be forgotten, as tributes were also lined up to remember Condrad.

According to Animal Services, Conrad was taken away and cremated. #RIP. Ní beidh a leithéid ann arís.
