Had it ever gone ahead, the proposed imminent 50 date run in the O2 Arena in London would have been... well... unreal. Michael Jackson - 50 years old, broke, owed millions and was mostly in a wheelchair - was expected to hit that stage like Peter Pan on disco biscuits.
Repercussions for some will be enormous. The suits at concert promoter AEG will be scrambling for the filing cabinet to check the insurance policy on the concerts, as they have reportedly sold about €75 million worth of tickets (750,000 in total).
Billboard's Ray Waddell writes, refunding the €75 million "will be messy, as well as expensive, and it will need to happen quickly by law," as tickets were purchased by fans in multiple countries, and may ultimately depend on the cause of death and level of insurance AEG secured. Cash registers in law firms from London to Los Angeles will be clicking away in time to the opening bars of Beat It, as whether anyone gets anything back will all depend on the small print on those contracts.
If you bought tickets on eBay or second hand, then you'll have some job to get your money back. If you bought them off Ticketmaster then watch this space as we'll try to get some information for you ASAP.
Best advice for ticket holders here in Ireland? Keep them, they may be worth something some day.
