It's been a tough week for those fans of football who are also tech aficionados, as the Premier League have warned they'll be cracking down on those sharing their content on social media.

The Premier League is big business, and that business doesn't like it when you share their content through VIne, GIFs, or videos, and they plan to make sure you stop. This week the Premier League's Director of Communications, Dan Johnson, stated that while the World Cup had seen a huge number of these short clips shared on social media, which proved hugely popular, the Premier League would not tolerate it this year.

FIFA weren't too thrilled either it turned out, but Johnson said that the 'best league in the world' had plans already underway: "it's a breach of copyright and we would discourage fans from doing it; we're developing technologies like GIF crawlers, Vine crawlers, working with Twitter to look to curtail this kind of activity".

Between Sky Sports, BT Sports, as well as exclusive deals to show goals on The Sun and The Times, there are billions at stake, and the technology would certainly help to get as much of the content down as quickly as possible.

Earlier this week, Manchester United also announced that they would no longer allow fans to bring iPads or similarly large tech devices to the ground any longer, so it's not been a good week if you're a fan of social media, gadgets and football.
