In a move that's meant to stop cops from using lethal force, a police department in California is trading its guns for nunchucks.
Yes, the things Bruce Lee and Michelangelo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles used. The nunchucks are being brought in to replace batons as a means of subduing people non-lethally.
Sgt. Casey Day of the Anderson County Police Department said that the nunchucks are safer than batons, both for officers and the people themselves.
"It gives us the ability to control a suspect instead of striking them... I see the value and the safety they bring to me,” he said, adding that nunchucks provide a distance between an officer and a suspect.
That's great and all, but does a smack across the face with a baton or a nunchuck make much of a difference? Probably not.
Could you imagine Irish guards using these, though? Amazing.
