As the number one ranked tennis player in the world, Novak Djokovic would certainly have been among the favourites to win a medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics you would certainly have fancied him to take Gold.
An opening round defeat at the hands of Juan Martin Del Potro, however, is not something many would have predicted.
Despite being a former US Open Champion, Del Potro would not have been expected to provide too much trouble for Djokovic. The Argentine has slipped down as far as 141st in Tennis World Rankings after suffering a series of injury set backs.
As if the odds weren't already stacked against Del Potro, he had to spend the best part of an hour stuck in a lift at the Olympic Village on the morning of the match.

Del Porto was eventually rescued by members of Argentina's handball team and went on to beat Djockovic 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-2). The Argentine has become an Olympics bogey opponent for Djockovic as he also defeated him in London 2012 in the bronze medal decider.
