The Hubble Telescope, which scans the solar system for all kinds of activity, recently detected interplanetary shocks on Uranus caused by solar winds from the sun, observing intense auroras around Uranus. The ice planet, which is 2.6 billion kilometers from Earth, was first discovered in 1781 and since then, Uranus has been the subject of intense study.
The images below, captured by Hubble, show the beautiful auroras and making the rings of Uranus clearly visible. The header image, however, was taken from Voyager 2 in 1986 and shows Uranus as essentially a blank slate.
