Look, there's no denying that Twitter, and social media generally, and the world really, can be pretty cynical.
That's why it's nice when now and again, there's a genuinely positive response to some new alliance, particularly when said relationship is of a political nature.
Yesterday, former President George W. Bush posted the following picture of him standing alongside U2 singer Bono, captioning the post: "Bono is the real deal. He has a huge heart and a selfless soul, not to mention a decent voice."
The pair talked at Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas about their efforts to end the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Bush created PEPFAR, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, while Bono co-founded ONE, a global campaign and advocacy organization that rallies around AIDS awareness and anti-poverty initiatives.
It's an important cause that's marking the start of a beautiful friendship.
Here's what Twitter thought:
George Bush and Bono took a picture together.....my heart is so happy

People hated this man. I never did. He was thoroughly decent and, whatever his errors, he is a patriot whose oath of office I never doubted. https://t.co/VrcKI0Q7Hr

If 2004 me knew that 2017 me would be wistfully thinking of W as the nice grandfather we all need right now, I'd punch myself. https://t.co/aTABLN6Qv2
