Facebook Messenger have been no slouches when it comes to adding new features to the app.

Things like the GIF search and secret basketball games had already been a hit with users but now developers have introduced their biggest change to date in its video chat feature.

Messenger previously had a video chat feature similar to that of Apple's FaceTime but the new addition allows you to text during a video chat.

The video chat will be reduced to a small square in the corner of the screen and allow you to use Messenger as normal to send GIFs, emojis or pictures.

The feature is easy to use: just click the video camera option in the top right corner when you have a chat window open, as in the picture below.

"It’s perfect for sharing quick moments with friends who aren’t right by your side or making your conversations richer by seeing each other face-to-face when you are messaging,’"Facebook said.

It could be argued that the new feature encourages people to text each other even though they are talking to each other face to face but it is a fun feature to be able to share images and GIFs during a video chat.
