US Senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders paid a visit to Áras an Uachtaráin today to meet with President Michael D. Higgins.
The Brooklyn native is in Ireland for the first time to attend the Dalkey Book Festival where he is scheduled to appear at an event.

Sanders was joined at Áras an Uachtaráin by his wife, Jane O'Meara Sanders and economist David McWilliams.
Bernie Sanders' sold out event at the Dalkey Book Festival will take place at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre at 7.30pm this evening.
