You'd think leaving Australia could have been one of the better things this woman did for her own health, but turns out falling asleep while drunk outdoors in Canada, as she says herself, kicked her ass. Warning: this gets very gross, very fast.
Emma Quirk was out partying with some friends in Saskatchewan when she got "way too wastey-pants" and ended up falling asleep on the street after suffering from hypothermia. According to Emma, she was found at 5.45am curled up on the street trying to sleep, and this is what her fingers looked.
Not the worst right? Well the nurse told her that best case scenario she'd keep her fingers, and worst case she's lose her hands. Not exactly the best news to wake up drunk to.
And then the blistering happened. This is when you may wanna dive out if you're eating or just ate.
It began slowly at first.
But then spread.
Until 'popping' day, when Emma's hands looked like this.
This is what 3rd and 4th degree frostbite looks like, and the pain, Emma says, is unbearable (which is why she was on opiates the entire time and kept in hospital). The one highlight to the story from her point of view is the name of the specialist who came to deal with her, thanks to his wonderfully ironic name - Dr. Freezin. Sometimes you just have to laugh, right?
Then came the cutting, and this is what her fingers looked like after.
And this is what Emma's hands look like as of five days ago, when she first posted this story to Imgur.
Emma says that Dr. Freezin thinks she'll keep all her fingers, but won't find out until June and everything heals. The moral here? Don't get blackout drunk when it's cold outside, because if you thought frostbite was a laughing matter, it ain't.
