There were some spectacular scenes in the sky over the country last night as the mother of all downpours spread across the country from the south, starting with the rebel county where one photographer managed to catch the freaky weather in action.

Lightning struck down in the West Cork town of Baltimore last night, and Pierce Higgins caught a spectacular photo of it.

And he wasn't alone, with plenty of others managing to snap shots of the plentiful activity.

But sure look, at least it'll get the humidity out of the air and let us all get a good nights sleep.
