Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to five years in jail as a result of being found guilty of culpable homicide.
Judge Thokozile Masipa handed down the sentence today after much deliberation, with the prosecution seeking a minimum sentence of 10 years, and the defence appealing for the judge to take in to consideration the fact that Pistorius would be "a lot more vulnerable than the normal man" in jail.
According to the BBC, Masipa said she was uneasy with the amount of emphasis that the defence were putting on Pistorius' perceived vulnerability, but that the sentencing was about finding the right balance between punishment and rehabilitation as she finally came to the decision that he should serve five years.
However, as Ben Smith of the BBC pointed out, that doesn't necessarily mean that he will be incarcerated for the entire length of the sentence, and that it could be a lot shorter than that.
Pistorius could be considered for release after 1/6 of his sentence. Could, in theory, be out after less than a year

However, as both sides have the right to appeal the sentencing decision, this might not be over yet.
