And apparently Jedward are having a go off it. Well, this feel good story did have to involve celebrities somehow, just like this story.
We could've gone with Daily Mail readers still going mental over Will.I.Am getting to carry the Olympic flame around the UK while tweeting (him getting handed an autotune free mic while standing uselessly beside Stevie Wonder and the Diamond Jubilee concert has only served to enrage them further for some reason).
ITV News this morning reports: "Jedward will be among 40 torch-bearers taking part in the Olympic relay around Dublin today. Dubliners have been called on to line the streets of the capital as it tours the only city outside the UK after special permission was granted for the torch to leave the jurisdiction of the host country. Jockey Ruby Walsh and Olympic winning runners Sonia O'Sullivan and Ronnie Delany will also be taking part."
Fair play, Jedward, you've managed to get wee Ireland's participation in the flame carrying a mention in the UK, a feat actual Irish Olympians failed to do. In fact ITV failed to mention the participation of Olympic boxers Michael Carruth and Wayne McCullough.
For those of you who'd like to see our Olympians, and Jedward, carry the flame for Ireland, RTE news reports: "The tour of the city will take in several historic sites, including the Garden of Remembrance, the GPO and Trinity College. The relay ends around midday with a celebration at St Stephen's Green, where Sonia O'Sullivan will light an Olympic cauldron to commemorate the visit. Organisers say the trip south is aimed at illustrating both the success of the peace process and the all-island nature of the Irish Olympic team."
