Waterford's Thomas Barr became the first ever Irish person to qualify for an Olympic sprint final on the track since 1934 on Tuesday and today he came agonisingly close to winning an Olympic Bronze medal in the 400m men's hurdles.
Barr set an Irish record of 48.39 seconds two days ago and he beat that record again today, setting the record at 47.97 seconds.

It was a tremendous performance from Barr. The time he set would have been enough to win him a Bronze or Silver medal in the last three Olympic Games and you have to imagine that the 24 year old has a bright future ahead of him.
