As far as reasons for going to jail, this ranks as slightly over-the-top.

A Scottish electrician is facing a three-year jail sentence for public indecency after he touched off a man's hip in a bar in Dubai. Jamie Harron, 27, claims that while drinking in the Rock Bottom Bar in Dubai, he held his hand out to ensure he didn't drop his drink anyone as he made his way through.

Harron touched off a man's hip to make sure he didn't hit him, which apparently angered said man enough to call the police. Calling the police for touching off someone. Yes, really.

He was then arrested and kept in Al-Barsha Prison for five days, after which he was released on bail and has reportedly spent close to £30,000 in legal fees and expenses following the incident. The authorities in Dubai also confiscated his passport, which means he is unable to leave the country.

According to the campaign group Detained In Dubai, Harron now faces a three-year jail sentence. "He was expecting to appear in court on Sunday, but the court moved the date without telling him or his lawyer. This led to a sentence of 30 days’ imprisonment for failing to present himself at the hearing."
