After seven weeks of promotion and months of smack-talk, and years of rumours, it's finally over - Floyd Mayweather has defeated Conor McGregor in one of the biggest prizefights in sports history.
Mayweather retained his unbroken record, making it 50-0, however McGregor was more than capable and went ten rounds before the referee called a halt to the fight. Though Mayweather was slow to start, McGregor made a valiant effort throughout and was gracious in defeat afterwards, declaring that Mayweather was "was a lot more composed, especially in the later parts of the fight.”
Meanwhile, Mayweather confirmed his retirement after the fight had ended, saying that McGregor was "a lot better than I thought he’d be. He’s a tough competitor, but I was the better man tonight."
So, the real question - how much did everyone make? McGregor is expected to pocket at least $30 million, and that figure could hit $75 million once the figures from PPV sales, live gate, foreign sales and closed circuit revenues are in - and that's not even counting the lucrative sponsorship deals McGregor made on the lead up to the fight.
Mayweather, meanwhile, is expected to pocket close to $200 million for the fight, with total revenue from the fight expected to top out at around $1 billion.
Which, let's face it, is the real reason why this happened at all.
