Bill Cosby's trial has ended after six days of deliberation in a deadlocked jury and unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
Cosby was accused of drugging and raping Andrea Constand in 2004 at his home in Pennsylvania. The jury, made up of seven men and five women, agreed that there was "hopeless deadlock that cannot be resolved on further deliberations.
Cosby's attorney, Brian McMonagle, called for and received a mistrial verdict from the presiding judge - however Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele announced that the prosecution would immediately retry the case. The verdict means that Cosby, now aged 79, has been temporarily spared a maximum sentence of 30 years in jail.
More than fifty women have come forward since word of the trial began with claims that they were drugged and raped by Cosby from the '70s all the way up to 2004. However, this trial was the only criminal case brought forward as many of the accusers had reached the statute of limitations.
