Matthew Perry's memoir was published last year, and by all accounts was a great read and one of the biggest celeb memoirs of 2022.
However, there was a passage in 'Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing' that caused quite a backlash, and which concerned his fellow actor Keanu Reeves.
The 'Friends' star took a very personal potshot at Reeves, questioning why the 'John Wick' star "still walks among us" when “talented” actors and "original thinkers" such as River Phoenix, Heath Ledger and Chris Farley had died prematurely.
"River was a beautiful man, inside and out — too beautiful for this world, it turned out," the passage read. "It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us? River was a better actor than me; I was funnier. But I certainly held my own in our scenes - no small feat, when I look back decades later."
Following the book's publication, Perry publicly apologised to Reeves and said that he had "chosen a name at random". Now he has said that the comments will be removed from all future editions of the book.
"I said a stupid thing. It was a mean thing to do," Perry said at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at the weekend. "I pulled his name because I live on the same street. I’ve apologised publicly to him. Any future versions of the book will not have his name in it."
He said that he had not personally apologised to Reeves, but "if I run into the guy, I’ll apologise," he said. "It was just stupid."
Reeves has not commented publicly on the matter.
