It's safe to say that the success of 'Derry Girls' has far surpassed anything its creators were expecting and has gained the unlikeliest fans in the unlikeliest corners.
Now, the show's writer Lisa McGee can add Martin Scorsese - aka one of the most acclaimed film directors of all time, no big deal - to the list of fans of the show.
Well, okay, technically he didn't say that he was a fan, but Scorsese revealed that he had been watching the Channel 4 comedy series during a recent appearance at the Economic Club of Chicago's annual black tie dinner.
The dinner took place last month but it's only now that a short clip has emerged of the director being asked what he's watching at the moment. He says 'I watched, the other night, 'Derry Girls'?' to which the crowd applauds. He then adds jokingly 'Those nuns...!' shaking his head.
Does this mean that we can expect to see the likes of Siobhan McSweeney and Tommy Tiernan in Scorsese's next film? Stranger things have happened...
And that’s it, you win. Shut it down, people, we have a winner.
