Doctors at a hospital in the Zhejiang province of China were able to diagnose that the man who walked into their hospital with stomach cramps had an underlying condition he was not aware of: he was a woman.
"So this guy walks into a bar, right..." Well, first of all he's not a guy, and second of all it's a doctor's office, and we've got a few questions. We imagine he probably does too, after the 44-year-old went to his local doctor and complained that he had stomach cramps.
A quick CT scan later, and it turns out that Mr. Chen was in possession of a uterus and ovaries, which came as a shock to him seeing as he also had a penis and had been married for the last ten years. The pains he had felt were period pains.
According to The Mirror, this is not unheard of, and "Intersex people may be genetically female, but physiologically male. Some will be true hermaphrodites, producing both eggs and sperm."
After some further testing, it was revealed that Mr. Chen is in fact, genetically at least, a woman, as he has a pair of female sex chromosomes, and doctors said that he will have to continue as is, as the treatment they would have available is only effective on younger patients.
