A man in Brazil has magically and miraculously avoided not only death but also any brain damage after shooting himself in the eye with his own harpoon gun. Bruno Coutinho was cleaning his gun at home when he accidentally set it off and sent a harpoon through his left eye and into his skull. If you're not making the most terrified face right now there's something wrong with you.
After four hours of surgery the harpoon was removed, which you can see for yourself in the X-ray above, and by the end it had been stuck in his head for 10 hours. TEN HOURS. IN HIS SKULL. Quoth a neighbour to press, 'There were people who saw it and got frightened. A thing like this you only see in a movie.' You don't bleedin' say. The head of neurosurgery in the hospital where Coutinho was treated talked about how much of a miracle it was that he didn't die from the incident, with the harpoon just missing essential arteries. 'The object, it seems, took a path where it didn't damage any vital structures, any vascular structures and was taken out.' he said.
It's a lot of effort to go to to get an eye-patch to go with your harpoon now.
