Start storing up food and guns because Terminator 2 is starting to look like it's a documentary. According to physicist and author Louis Del Monte, machines will be the leading species on Earth by 2045.

According to Del Monte, human society will reach a technological singularity - where artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence - and begin to adopt machinery and cybernetics as a part of everyday life.

"By the end of this century, most of the human race will have become cyborgs. The allure will be immortality," claims Del Monte. He further believes machines will become so technologically advanced that humans will be viewed as "harmful insects" by them.

In his book, The Artificial Intelligence Revolution, Del Monte further believes that machines will be self-conscious and be able to protect themselves.
