Hardcore 'Grey’s Anatomy' fans will remember the drama around Katherine Heigl speaking out about not being happy with the storylines and material she received while working on the show.

Well, she’s recently addressed long-standing rumours about her decision to withdraw from Emmy consideration for her role on 'Grey’s Anatomy' in 2008. During an appearance on Shannen Doherty’s podcast, 'Let's Be Clear', Heigl clarified the situation, emphasising that she never actually turned down an Emmy nomination.

Heigl explained that the process for Emmy nominations requires actors to submit their work for consideration. In 2008, she chose not to submit her work, which led to widespread speculation and controversy. At the time, Heigl issued a statement saying she did not feel she was given the material that warranted an Emmy nomination and wanted to maintain the integrity of the academy

On the podcast, she said, "I was kind of trying to make a bit of a snarky point about my material that year, but I was also just not feeling my material. I didn't think I had anything that warranted even the consideration for a nomination. I just wasn't proud of my work. I would never be so bold or so arrogant to turn down a nomination. I would take that nomination if it came my way. I'd be down. But I just knew there wasn't anything that would really warrant one that year, and I was trying to be honourable, I guess. I was trying to have some integrity. I wasn't trying to be a dick."

Reflecting on her decision, Heigl expressed regret over how she handled the situation. She admitted that she should have remained silent or simply said she forgot to submit her work. Her original statement, intended to make a point about the quality of her material that season, inadvertently created a significant backlash.

Sixteen years later, Heigl's perspective has evolved. She now sees the incident as a learning experience and acknowledges that her approach could have been more tactful. The controversy surrounding her decision had a lasting impact on her career and public perception.

Heigl got together with former co-stars Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr. at the Emmys in January to celebrate the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history.
