So, this is Jude Law. He's playing a transsexual in a new film called Rage. His character is called Minx. This is what the director of Rage, Sally Potter, said of the film's plot and her subject's performance:
"Part of the subject matter of Rage is the ugly use of beauty in the pursuit of profit. Drugged by Marketing, sapped by fear of aging, conned by the cult of celebrity... image becomes all. Jude Law, whose beauty has sometimes been held against him as an actor, made the courageous decision to accept the role of Minx - a "celebrity super-model" and took on a kind of hyper-beauty for this persona... a 'female' beauty which gradually unravels as the story unfolds. Strangely, the more he became a 'she', coiffed and made up - the more naked was his performance. There was great strength in his willingness to make himself vulnerable. It was an extraordinarily intense part of the shoot."
What a load of w*nk. What a big pile of steaming self-indulgent orty toss... or is that just me exhibiting my latent ignorance? If so, so be it! *twirls* Dress it up as you may, but it's essentially Jude Law in a wig (and Cillian Murphy, he is not) because he knows that roles in which a straight actor goes gay or transgender are all the rage at the minute - much like roles involving prosthetics were in the earlier part of the decade, or characters with physical/mental impairments were in the late 80s/early 90s. Or it could just be that Jude was more than happy to wear a wig for a while.
