A photocall for Jennifer Lawrence’s latest film Red Sparrow (pictured above) has come under backlash after the actress was pictured wearing a revealing dress while her male colleagues were dressed up snugly for the weather.
The shoot took place in London with Lawrence donning a black Versace plunging gown with a slit on the side for the occasion.
Many took to social media to express their outrage of what they thought was a summary of inequality in Hollywood in a single picture:
It must be about 3 degrees in London ATM, cold enough that the bloke actors have to wear coats and scarves to their press call and yet poor Jennifer Lawrence is wearing a small amount of fabric some might call a dress. pic.twitter.com/GoVfPscRWi

True equality means either Jennifer Lawrence getting a coat, or Jeremy Irons having to pose for a photocall in assless chaps.

If even one of them was a gentleman, she'd be wearing his coat. https://t.co/T7VBlducZE

Just reinforces the film industry's requirement that women be sexy, even if impractical! The picture is really dumb! I'm surprised Jennifer Lawrence didn't object. #RedSparrowMovieâš¡ï¸ÂÂ? “Red Sparrow photos prove being a woman in Hollywood can be very cold”https://t.co/MwlLHGCcrt

And just because she’s a woman she has to show skin and that gets dollars rolling in? Woww so much for equality and non-oppression 😅

Others defended the actress or said her outfit was her choice:
I feel like Jennifer Lawrence would tell people to fuck off if she was pressured into not wearing a coat. She's also probably getting paid to wear thar freakin expensive dress...I'd freeze for that too!! https://t.co/47CrXu8Mya

It’s freezing outside today, but Jennifer Lawrence herself CHOSE to dress like that.... so no sympathy from me. pic.twitter.com/knbYC8Gppr

Now the actress has herself spoken out about the controversy:
