James Arthur beat out Jahmene Douglas to become the winner of The X Factor 2012 last night, after a year of low ratings and sheer boredom on our screens every weekend. And yet we kept watching.
A lot went down during the double whammy final as it moved up to Manchester for some unknown reason. We had mic failures, special guests, Christopher Maloney not coming back after getting the boot Saturday and then going on a Twitter rampage, god awful mashups and more montages and ad breaks than you could shake a stick at. And what did it get us? A mediocre 'pop star' with a mediocre single and a whole lot of fuss over nothing. Why do we have a terrible feeling this all going to go the way of Matt Cardle?
What is very interesting this morning however is the release of the voting results from each week, revealing a whole lot more about the competition and the way it was all going. Turns out that Tango Spud Christopher Maloney came out on top every week until Ella Henderson got the boot in week seven, and Jahmene was never in the running to win, always coming second by a wide margin. So it really was the rebound on Ella losing that saved James and made him win. Once again, hat tip to the X Factor press team for playing us all and getting the guy they wanted to win on top.
Congrats James, we can't wait for your first proper single. We can hear the overused, unnecessary 'urban' bass notes already.
