We didn't see the photos in question, but apparently the RTE News anchor was snapped waking her dogs in her PJs (tartan) over the weekend, and they obviously wound up in a red top. We love looking at famous people in their jammies.
According to Breakingnews.ie, the publication of the photos was more a source of upset for Sharon than "the Garda investigation into allegations that she has been the victim of harassment." Kind of puts things into perspective there.
The editor in chief of the Irish Daily Mirror, John Kierans reportedly apologised for the inclusion of the photos: "I think I made a massive error in judgement, and I regret that, and I apologise to Sharon, on the Mirror’s behalf for us using those pictures on page 3."
He then went ton to defend the choice to publish the photos, adding: "Half the people in this country buy tabloid newspapers every day. Those pictures of Sharon were on our website yesterday morning, and there was very very few people looking at them, but I can tell you one thing, after Sharon went on Liveline, I’d say we had 20,000 people looking at those pictures yesterday afternoon."
Speaking on Joe eh, eeeh, eh, eh, eeeeh Duffy's Liveline yesterday, Sharon said: "I don’t set myself up as a supermodel. I’m a working journalist. I scrub up well. It is my right to throw on my slouchy pants and my Ugg boots and battered old cardigan and it is my right to scrub up when I want to without thinking there are paparazzi on the street. This isn’t the Kardashians for God’s sake. I may be on the television every night, but my lifestyle is very, very ordinary."
Then came the comment that she found being papped more disturbing than being stalked: "That disturbed me more than any deranged stalker... I’ve dealt with it [the stalking]. These are people trawling porn sites day and night and probably unwell in themselves. I hope these people get the help they need to make something of their lives. The person who hid behind a bush made a conscious decision to do that and I’m assuming that he wasn’t mentally unwell. He wanted to make a few bob and he did and I think that is disgusting as one journalist to another journalist to whoever they were."
As for her thoughts on tabloids: "I don’t buy these rags. I don’t do anything for these tabloids. I don’t see why I should. I don’t rely on them. I don’t need them. I don’t have to deal with this kind of rubbish. I don’t see why I should. I won’t ever seek The Sun, The Mirror, The Star or any of these rags. I’ll never, ever, ever pander to them."
