There's some incredibly bad weather on the way as this year's winter looks set to be record-breaking and unpleasant.
Get out the hats and scarves...and gloves and jackets and long johns, because this year's winter is shaping up to be particularly bad. Weather forecasters are warning that an easterly wind known as the "Beast from the East" will be hitting Ireland and bringing some very bad weather with it.
According to the UK Met Office, we can expect that "spells of wet and windy weather may be more frequent than is typical" and that over the next few weeks, those wetter conditions will kick in. The increase in bad weather is due to the "continuing risk of our weather coming in from the Atlantic, which brings unsettled conditions".
There is some good news in that the UK Met Office, who forecast a month in advance, say that temperatures don't look set to drop just yet, but that come the later winter months, we could have to deal with "freezing and flooding". Great.
