Those transatlantic flights will become a lot tougher if this goes through.
WestJet, the British airline, are opting to remove the screens from their planes, as they aim to reduced the overall weight onboard by 1,500 pounds.
The move, which will save fuel on long-haul journeys, has been made on the cards since wi-fi became a common feature on these flights, and that seems to be the way WestJet are advising their customers to do deal with the transition.
The company are advising passengers to bring tablets with them, and either download films before boarding the plane, or else hook them up to the onboard film service. That sounds reasonable, but it'll still cost £5 to connect to the internet.
And if you don't have an iPad or tablet, WestJet will provide you with one, for a small rental fee, of course. But seeing as a recent survey found that 80% of passengers travel with a device capable of screening media, we doubt there'll be much need for that anyway.
