No, this is not a viral marketing campaign for Ant-Man. If only it were. Instead we really have to deal with the prospect of killer hornets making it to our shores and ruining whatever nice weather we get. Great.
According to the Daily Mail, 'millions' of giant Asian hornets have started colonising the French countryside after making to the country and have already claimed the lives of six people. It's believed the hornets first made their way to Europe in a plant transport from China in 2004, and since then have spread across the country.
The two-inch long insects are said to have a 'sting like a hot nail being hammered into the body', they have decimated native honey bee colonies in France as well as posing a threat to people. The Norfolk Beekeepers' Association in the UK is now concerned that the Asian hornets could make their way across the channel. And if weather conditions are right, they could make their way to us. If they can survive a trip from China to France in a potted plant, we doubt that a little bit of water could get in their way.
For once, a crap cold summer could actually do us some good.
