A car belonging to a 91-year-old Vatican librarian was seized by French police, with a load of cocaine and cannabis inside.
Two men have been detained by police in France after the car they were traveling in was searched at customs at the border, and four kilos of cocaine and cannabis were found inside.
The car had diplomatic licence plates that stated that it was from the Vatican, and it turns out that it belonged to a 91-year-old Argentinian librarian emeritus, who was bed-ridden as a result of a heart-attack.
The two men inside the car are believed to be Italian, and they took the car after it had been serviced just a few days ago, hoping that the diplomatic plates would stop them from getting searched. No such luck, of course, as they were stopped at Chambéry, near the Italian/Swiss border and police are now investigating the incident.
The Vatican confirmed that it was their vehicle that was used in the incident, but said that none of their staff had been involved in any way.
