In news to make you cry today, a young horse has been taken into the care of Irish Horse Welfare Trust in Wicklow after being photographed tragically standing by the body of it's mother who was horribly beaten to death by men in Wicklow town last week.
The upsetting image did the rounds on social media throughout the world after the appalling incident came to light and understandably caused serious amounts of upset, but at least now there's some less sad news as 'Hero' (as the foal has been names by the IHWT) has been transferred into the care of the Trust, with founder Sharon Newsome saying that Hero has adapted well to it's new surroundings and a new home has been found for him.
"He was a little bit nervous for the first few hours but settled quite quickly. We already have a five-star forever home organised for him once he finishes the three-week isolation period with us. We can't disclose who his new owners will be but they are in the south-east and they have been on our waiting list for a rescue horse for some time. They have horses of their own and a rescue pony from the IHWT already," Newsome told the Independent.
Hero will have to sit through a period of quarantine to prevent the spread of any disease before allowed into the IHWT rescue farm in Woodenbridge, Co Wicklow.
