You really have to feel sorry for twenty-three-year-old Alex Lanchester. Not only did her potential husband fake his own death to get out of marrying her, but now she's internet famous for getting dumped over the phone by her 'dead' fiance.
According to ITV, Alex met the absolute charmer that is Tucker Blandford while she was studying at Connecticut University in 2012 where she described him as a 'gentleman', saying she had 'never been in love like that before', and things went so well that the two planned to get hitched this year. Until the following happened.
A couple of months ago Blandford, pretending to be his own father called his fiance and told her her partner had 'been deeply depressed and wanted to die, so had thrown himself in front of a car'.
So her world was turned upside down. Then, she called Blandford's parents only to discover that her American fiance was actually a-okay and according to them, the couple had broken up when Lanchester returned home to the UK. Sound.
In the name of fairness, here's his side of the story: ' I'm a terrible, awful person. I know I shouldn't have told her I was dead, but I didn't know what else to do. Alex is an amazing girl but I got scared and wanted to get out of the relationship. It was moving extremely fast and with us being in different countries, it was really hard.'
Actually didn't do himself any favours there did he.
Don't feel too bad for her though, she seems well past it now. 'All I ever did was love him. I'm so sick of being messed around and I'm glad to be rid of him.' Young love, eh?
