The Grimes and Elon Musk story has taken another unexpected twist after it was revealed yesterday that the Canadian pop star is suing the father of her three children.
X boss Musk has fathered three kids with Grimes, real name Claire Boucher - son X Æ A-Xii born in 2020, daughter Exa Dark Sideræl born in 2021 and a second son, Tau Techno Mechanicus, whose existence was only revealed last month when a new biography of Musk was published.
The pair's relationship status was unclear as Grimes previously referred to their relationship as 'fluid' in early 2022, before confirming that they had split later that year - but now, she has filed a "petition to establish parental relationship" according to court records.
The petition is normally filed when parents are unmarried to establish parentage, but one US family attorney explained that it is essentially a lawsuit and is "typically filed alongside demands for child support or custody rights." However, those demands were not included in the initial filing as yet.
The pair have had a rocky relationship even in recent times, after Boucher tweeted (and later deleted) a request to Musk's biographer Walter Isaacson, saying "Tell Shivon to unblock me and tell Elon to let me see my son or plz respond to my lawyer. I have never even been allowed to see a photo of these children until this moment, despite the situation utterly ripping my family apart."
The tweet referred to Shivon Zilis, an executive at the Musk-founded Neuralink, who gave birth to twins fathered by Musk in 2021. Later, Boucher released a statement saying: "I spoke with Shivon at length finally, which was long overdue. This wasn’t her fault, plz don’t be angry at her! We respect each other a lot and we’re excited to become friends and have the kids grow up together."
