Zach Galifianakis is more than just a comic/actor, turns out he's an active philanthropist who actually saved 87-year-old Elizabeth 'Mimi' Haist from ten years of living on the streets.

The pair first crossed paths back in 1994 when Galifianakis was still a struggling newcomer in LA waiting to get his big break on the comic circuit. Mimi used to volunteer in his laundromat 'Fox Laundry' and got by on tips from the customers when she and Zach struck up a friendship. Flashforward a decade or so and Zach is making it big and, having lost touch with Mimi, reaches out and finds that she's now homeless and living on the streets of LA. So being the very decent human being that he is, Zach finds her a one-bed/one-bath apartment and starts to pay for the rent and bills, which he has been doing ever since.

Not only that, but he also introduced her to other celebs, such as Renee Zellweger who decked out Mimi's home in all the furnishings it needed, and young filmmaker Yaniv Rokah who is now making a documentary about her and her story of how she went from being a Californian housewife to living on the streets before taking up a residency in Fox Laundry 18 years ago.

The best part though? Galifianakis likes to spoil Mimi whenever he's in town, including getting her dolled up and bringing her to premieres and afterpartys and such, where she gets to sip on her favourite 'lemon drop martinis with Grey Goose vodka'. Legend.
