It's either a deluge or a drought when it comes to award shows. There was nary a swatch of red carpet in sight last week, this week we're averaging out at one a day.
The Glamour Women of The Year Awards took place in London last night, and a load of sophisticated folk - and Cheryl Cole (in her Julien MacDonald dress worth £25k) - turned up to accept awards. With regards to the fashion on display, it fell into certain camps: Shiney (Denise Van Outen, Tess Daly, Amanda Holden), Lacey (Billie Piper, Zoe Saldana, *squints* Miquita Oliver), Billowy (Fearne Cotton, Lily Allen, Rachel Stevens, that Eat Youself Think woman who's everywhere lately), Unnerving (Florence Welch, Anna Kendrick, Davinia Taylor , Alexandra Burke), and People Who Try So Hard to Pose They End Up Looking Like The Initial Stages of a Warp Spasm (Pixie Lott, Karen Gillan, Lily Allen).
You might have noticed that some fell into both camps. For example, Duffy was lacy but also exceptionally unnerving. I'm not sure what she's done to her head but she's petrifying me. There's a bang of Bride of Chucky off her. There was another division, however, and that was Please Eat More... Abby Clancy, Zoe Saldana, Cheryl Cole, Claire Merry, Anna Kendrick, Diana Vickers, and so on.
Observe the winners list below, which contains few surprises (at bit like Pixie Geldof's get up)
Radio Personality of the Year - Fearne Cotton
UK TV Actress of the Year - Billie Piper
Accessory Designer of the Year - Emma Hill
Band of the Year - Florence + The Machine
Entrepreneur of the Year - Nicole Richie
Comedy Actress of the Year - Ruth Jones
Man of the Year - Aaron Johnson
Film-Maker of the Year - Sam Taylor-Wood (she probably insisted on winning an award before extending Aaron's curfew for the evening)
Presenter of the Year - Christine Bleakley
Writer of the Year - Sarah Waters
Sheer Infusion Newcomer - Alexandra Burke (sheer w*** of an award title more like)
Sportswoman of the Year - Amy Williams
Editors Special Award - Anna Kendrick
Solo Artist of the Year - Lily Allen (who managed to remain upright for the evening, unlike previous years)
Film Actress of the Year - (what's left of) Zoe Saldana
Woman of the Year - (who else but) Cheryl Cole. So chuffed was she at getting the award, she had to parade it out of the venue on it's own without the presence of a pesky goodie bag getting in the way.
US TV Actress of the Year - Lea Michele
TV Personality of the Year - Dannii Minogue
Fashion Designer of the Year - Isabel Marant
Outstanding Contribution - Yoko Ono
As for the presence of this lump, apparently he opened the awards ceremony. I'm convinced he's landed himself one of those hammocks that cloned Homer in a recent Tree House of Horrors installment.
