If the cliche of ‘hell hath no fury like a woman scorned’ is true, then Satan himself would be no match for Shakira.
As you may have heard, the Colombian pop star has scored a hit with her latest track - a devastating take-down of her ex-partner, retired Barcelona footballer Gerard Pique.
The pair split last year after 11 years and 2 children together, and Pique has allegedly moved on with a 22-year-old PR student employed by the footballer’s events production company.
When Shakira got wind of his new relationship, she released a song called ‘Shakira Bzrp Music Sessions 53’ that has been viewed 133 million times in the five days since its release.
Its lyrics include: “A she-wolf like me isn’t for rookies”, and “I was out of your league, which is why you’re with someone just like you”, as well as “I'm worth two 22-year-olds”.
At one point, she also sings: “You traded in a Ferrari for a Twingo/You swapped a Rolex for a Casio”, referring to a Renault Twingo - a small car that we’re guessing most wealthy footballers wouldn’t be caught dead in.
Now, however, it seems that Pique is attempting to take control of the narrative around the song, as he turned up to an event driving a Twingo.
He also revealed that he had secured sponsorship from Casio for the Spanish King’s League, the seven-a-side competition that he established last year following his retirement.
“Casio has sent us wrist watches” he said at a press conference, lifting up his wrist to show a watch before handing out watches to the other footballers in the league. “We reached a sponsorship agreement with Casio, the King’s League struck a deal with Casio.”

Shakira has not yet responded to the latest development, but we have a feeling this won’t be the last we hear of it…
