It made us all cringe so hard it nearly resulted in a hernia.

According to a report in The Irish Independent, the "investigation" of blasphemy against Stephen Fry for comments during an appearance on Gay Byrne's The Meaning of Life’ in February 2015, has been dropped. Apparently they couldn't find anyone who was actually outraged...

A man from Clare made the initial complaint in 2015 and has apparently confirmed that he's "happy" the complaint was investigated in full.

The man, who has not been named, said “I simply believed that the comments made by Fry on RTÉ were criminal blasphemy and that I was doing my civic duty by reporting a crime."

Yea, he has THAT much time on his hands obviously.

This is the type of shit that results in Irish stereotypes being propagated around the world. The notion of a backward nation, who actually give a shit about such ridiculous things. Obviously, the vast, vast majority of the Irish public were mortified. Us included..

Health Minister Simon Harris is calling for a referendum to the blasphemy law, which was introduced in 2009 by then Minster for Justice Dermot Ahern, making it illegal to be “grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters sacred by any religion, thereby intentionally causing outrage among a substantial number of adherents of that religion”.
