It seems like the allegations of bullying and controlling behaviour on her show have had a lasting effect on Ellen DeGeneres.
The TV host, actress and stand-up comedian's show came to an end in 2022 after 19 seasons, after accusations of a toxic workplace culture came to light, and tabloid reports suggested that she was "not always nice" to her employees on the show.
However, DeGeneres has not yet managed to move on from the accusations, if her most recent comments are anything to go by.
The 66-year-old is currently on her final stand-up tour, titled 'Ellen's Last Stand... Up', which is being filmed for a Netflix special - but it seems that once her commitments have been fulfilled, she is planning to retire altogether.
One fan asked her during an audience Q&A at a show in Santa Rosa recently about moving into films or perhaps Broadway when her stand-up tour ends.
"Um, no," she said. "This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done."
Another fan suggested that she could return as the voice of Dory in another 'Finding Nemo' spin-off, but she doubled down, saying "No - I’m going bye-bye, remember?"
At the same show, DeGeneres referenced the allegations of mistreatment, telling the audience "Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me. I got chickens. Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.”
She added that she "can be demanding and impatient and tough. I am a strong woman. I am many things, but I am not mean."
"I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me'," she admitted. "Now I realise I said that during the height of my popularity."
