Since when is enforcing a mullet onto a dress the stuff of iconic style? Apologies, I should be asking Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, 'cause it worked for her. That and winning the genetic lottery.
Hungtington-Whiteley was awarded Elle Style Icon at last night's do, which - for the Elle Style Awards - wasn't very stylish. Sure, there were designer dresses all over the shop, but they didn't tickle my fancy...
We've already addressed Rosie's Antonio Beradi number, mullet, no, then there was the deluge of flora. Christina Hendricks (and her LMFAO-lite husband) kept her money makers under wraps in Carolina Herrera, while Florence (who thankfully has re-employed a fringe) was more in keeping with February, so her Erdem came dusted in a light frost (although I find the shoes a bit matchy matchy).
Spring was busting out all over Grace Woodward and Poppy Delevigne, while Pixie Geldof went down the veg route and opted for some peppers. Elsewhere, Tali Lennox - presumably wearing Julien Macdonald as she came wearing Julian Macdonald - depicted the scene of a bleached bird carcas in a field of buttercups. Naomi Harris came as a part-peacock-part-Baby Bop, and Hayley Atwell imprisoned her breasts to a night in solitary confinement.
Host Alexa Chung donned a dower grey suit (more for the purpose of covering her twiglets); Gillian Anderson and her suitor enjoyed a stroll in a Edwardian walled garden after supper before making their way to the Savoy; and Jamie Winstone considered her future.
Snowdon, Chastain, and Ellis-Bextor almost nailed it. And then there was Christina Ricci... Well played. Then again, I'm a sucker for a snug black dress.
