Britain's Next Top Model host Elle Macpherson said we are in a different era where supermodels are not 'statuesque' like they used to be. Elle, who has been in the modelling industry for 28 years, told Stylist magazine: "In the era of the supermodel, Wall Street was booming, America was booming. Guys showed off their financial successes and models were huge and statuesque." She thinks supermodels became such big successes because of a lull in the film industry and added "In the Fifties and Sixties you had Marilyn Monroe and Betty Davis, women that played up their sexuality. Come the Eighties, women didn't want to be so contrived and so there was a thirst for glamour, models didn't just do runway or beauty anymore, they were celebrities that did talk shows and music videos."
Hmm, that is true but some should stick to the catwalk and I'm thinking that Sarah Murdoch might be wishing she did just that. Australia's Next Top Model was crowned recently and but it didn't go according to plan. The show's host, Sarah, confirmed to a live audience that Kelsey Martinovich had won the show. As she held back the tears and thanked everyone that voted, delighted she had won the prestigious prize, Ms Murdoch then announced she was given the wrong name through her ear piece and the real winner was Amanda Ware (i.e. the lady to Kelsey's right). Utterly embarrassing, but the runner up took it graciously in fairness. Here is the clip, it's very cringe worthy for Murdoch but worth a watch. Apologies for the bad quality in advance!
