What's the definition of 'throwing shade'? Just ask dictionary.com - because they seem to have nailed it.
The web dictionary kicked off a big kerfuffle yesterday when Forbes magazine named Kylie Jenner one of its ' Top 60 self-made American women' - a description which made a lot of people scoff, considering that Jenner, although hugely successful and indubitably hard-working, can hardly be described as 'self-made' considering the family she comes from.
It was up to Dictionary.com's Twitter account to make the point publicly, however, and they did so in emphatic fashion, as you'll see below.
That, my friends, is what you call a 'burn'.
Self-made means having succeeded in life unaided.

Unsurprisingly, many other folk agreed...
It is not shade to point out that Kylie Jenner isn’t self-made. She grew up in a wealthy, famous family. Her success is commendable but it comes by virtue of her privilege. Words have meanings and it behooves a dictionary to remind us of that. https://t.co/2HzIJbLb8q
