What with all of these celebrity break-ups we're in desperate need of some cheering up (and yes, we probably need to get out more) but now, thanks to The Rock, our day has been made. No scratch that; our week, our YEAR.
The soundest and sweetest and muscliest celebrity on the planet has said he has not ruled out the idea of running for US president in the not so distant future. So if we could just fast forward through this potential Trump nightmare and imagine a time when Dwayne Johnson would reign over the world's most powerful state, that'd be great.
Though the idea of entering the political arena is something plenty of celebs joke about, Dwayne is deadly serious. In an interview with GQ Magazine, for which he graces their July cover, he said:
“I’ll be honest, I haven’t ruled politics out,” he said. “I'm not being coy when I say that, but at the moment I am not sure. I can’t deny that the thought of being governor, the thought of being president, is alluring. And beyond that, it would be an opportunity to make a real impact on people’s lives on a global scale.”
It's certainly alluring for us too; given that he's the ultimate sounder and incredibly smart and well meaning too. But who would join rank as his second in command? Kevin Hart? Well, one can dream.
For now, Johnson has 11 projects in the pipeline and lots more on his radar but never say never: “There are a lot of other things I want to do first...”
For now, we'll have to remain content with the significant impact he makes on social media, where he has amassed over 100 million followers who, like us, hang on his every word.
As for the role that made him famous, Dwayne says: "The Rock was - still is in fact - the best role I will ever get to play. I was being me, but me turned all the way up to ten. I could say anything, do anything and I would wink and everyone was in on the joke. They got it, I was connecting, it was perfect. But I couldn't help feeling like I had achieved everything I had wanted to in wrestling. By the end of 1998 I was the youngest world champion and making a lot of money, but I wanted to know what was next."
