The former Newcastle and Aston Villa midfielder has announced that he plans to stand against Sepp Blatter in the upcoming presidential elections for FIFA.

David Ginola, the man whose hair was the most famous sight of the Premier League in the '90s, has announced his intention to stand against Sepp Blatter in the FIFA presidential elections. The former France international unveiled his campaign today at a press conference at the Ham Yard hotel in London, which will be backed by Paddy Power.

That perhaps lends an element of farce to his campaign, as does the fact that it is as yet unclear whether or not he can actually stand, as he needs to prove that he has been actively involved in football for the last two years (we don't know if working as a TV pundit counts) as well as getting the approval of at least five national associations to stand.

The elections will take place in Zurich on May 29th, and at the moment there are a few other candidates who possibly stand a better chance of actually challenging Blatter and have announced their intention to do so: Prince Ali Bin al-Hussein of Jordan, former Fifa official Jérôme Champagne and former president of the Chilean football federation Harold Mayne-Nicholls.

We know who the first big commercial partner brought on board will be if Ginola manages to win, anyway...well after Paddy, of course.
