It was confirmed last night during UFC 199 that the rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz is officially happening.
Diaz will face off against McGregor in a non-title match at UFC 202, at long last, in the T-Mobile Las Vegas Arena on August 20th. Although it was initially thought that the two would meet again at UFC 200, McGregor was pulled out of the fight after a back and forth between him and the UFC over a hectic promotional tour.
Their previous encounter at UFC 196 was a hastily put-together fight, as Diaz stepped in to replace the then-injured UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos. It's been a long road to this second fight, both with the aforementioned war of words between McGregor and UFC and, indeed, the infamous tweet about McGregor leaving the sport entirely.
However, it appears that's no longer the case as UFC chief Dana White spoke just a few days ago about McGregor's determination to fight Diaz again. "Conor is obsessed with this rematch,” White said. “I don’t know why, but he is. It’s just his type of personality. He’s obsessed with it. He’s obsessed with fighting Diaz again – at 170 pounds."
Meanwhile, The Next Big Thing, Brock Lesnar is headed to UFC 200 against an as-yet-unknown fighter. Lesnar was originally set to return to WWE, however it now appears that that's been postponed until Lesnar steps into the octagon for another fight. Lesnar, who was formerly a UFC Heavyweight Champion, is set to fight on July 20th with his opponent due to be named later tonight.
