George and Amal Clooney, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, Oprah Winfrey, and Jeffrey and Marilyn Katzenberg will all be donating to the March for Our Lives, a demonstration to advocate for gun control following last week’s tragic shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida.

The Clooneys, Spielbergs, Katzenbergs, and Winfrey have each vowed $500,000. The Clooneys and Katzenbergs will also participate in the march on Washington, D.C.

The March 24 rally has been organised by five teenagers (Jacqueline Coren, Emma Gonzalez, Cameron Kasky, David Hogg, and Alex Wind) who survived the mass shooting which took 17 lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Rallies will also be organised in cities throughout the U.S.

George Clooney said in a statement: “Amal and I are so inspired by the courage and eloquence of these young men and women from Stoneman Douglas High School.

“Our family will be there on March 24 to stand side by side with this incredible generation of young people from all over the country, and in the name of our children Ella and Alexander, we’re donating $500,000 to help pay for this groundbreaking event. Our children’s lives depend on it.”

Other celebrities have followed suit, matching the $500,000 vow, including Steven Spielberg.

“The young students in Florida and now across the country are already demonstrating their leadership with a confidence and maturity that belies their ages,” he said. “Kate and I applaud their efforts to take a stand for the benefit of this and future generations. They are an inspiration to us all, and we are joining in this movement with a donation of $500,000.”

“Marilyn and I are proud to stand with the brave young leaders from Parkland, Florida, who have taken their pain and grief and turned it into action,” Dreamworks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg stated. “We will join Amal and George Clooney on March 24 to stand alongside these remarkable young people. We are also donating $500,000 to March for Our Lives to support this historic event.”

“George and Amal, I couldn’t agree with you more,” Winfrey tweeted. “I am joining forces with you and will match your $500,000 donation to ‘March for Our Lives.’ These inspiring young people remind me of the Freedom Riders of the ’60s who also said we’ve had ENOUGH and our voices will be heard.”
