... because that's normal practice when you break up with someone you've been dating on and off for a year.
The Yeah 3x hitmaker broke up with Karrueche over his "friendship" with former girlfriend/punch bag Rihanna - who he was convicted of assaulting in 2009 and has recently been linked to again - and to avoid any bad feelings, he offered the model money so she can buy herself something nice, like a house.
A source told The Sun: "Neither Rihanna nor Chris want to make things harder for her than they already are. Chris wants to set her up financially and do right by her - he wants her to stay in his life if possible."
Meanwhile, Rihanna has reportedly "reached out to her love rival" and the duo recently met for a heart-to-heart. The insider added: "Rihanna called Karrueche for a proper heart-to-heart. They needed to air a few problems. The girls talked for close to two hours. Rih answered all of the questions and Karrueche had a few home truths to tell her."
Rihanna's dad Ronald Fenty has - surprise, surprise - given the couple his blessing despite Chris' past, eh, mistakes and insists the star deserves a second chance because he is a respectful and charismatic person that he has a lot of 'love' for. That and they're essentially kindred spirits, what with them both being spouse beaters 'n all.
Fenty said: "I think everyone makes mistakes and they shouldn't be held to them forever. Everyone should be forgiven once (or, in your case, repeatedly). There's a lot more to Chris than the whole world knows. I love Chris, man. He's got so much charisma. And he's always had so much respect for me. That's what I love about him. He's always shown me respect."
Because nothing says "respect" like someone "punching" your child "numerous times and putting her in a headlock, restricting her breathing and causing her to start to lose consciousness... threatening to beat her and kill her... and biting her ear and her fingers." Forgive me, Oprah; I'm one of those irksome souls who just won't let it go. Take from that what you will.
The superstar's father also praised Chris' many talents, gushing about his "super-talented" singing and dancing as well as his design skills. Ah, when you put it that way!
