Police in Portland, Oregon could have been forgiven for thinking they were getting a prank call when a concerned resident phoned the cops because there was a chicken crossing the road...
According to Fox News, the concerned resident had noticed that there was indeed a chicken on the road outside their house, and as a result traffic had come to a standstill. The call came through to a non-emergency number at a local station, where it was met with a bit of a chuckle.
However, officers were sent to the scene to get traffic moving again and possibly help the stray bird to the other side, but by the time they arrived, Sgt. Pete Simpson told the station that it was no longer there.
That meant that they were unable to take it in for questioning and could not "determine the chicken's intent". There's probably a joke in there somewhere but we can't put our finger on it...
