Twitter’s temporary suspension of Rose McGowan’s account has driven celebrities into action.
As reported yesterday, her account on the social media platform was suspended after she posted a number of tweets about the sexual allegations against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein and Ben Affleck.
Twitter later said that the reason for her suspension was that “one of her Tweets included a private phone number, which violates our Terms of Service.” They added: “Twitter is proud to empower and support the voices on our platform, especially those that speak truth to power.” (read their statement here)
Thus while her account was not suspended due to comments about Weinstein, many celebrities are still supporting the day-long #WomenBoycottTwitter protest in support of those women whose voices have been silenced.
